Apple Watch, in the new beta version of watchOS 27.3, is receiving "audio intelligence" features that enable the watch to analyze ambient sounds. Now, Siri can not only respond to commands but also act as a personal assistant processing external information.
Two key capabilities are Siri Recap and Live Rewind. The first, using "ambient listening," can generate brief summaries of your conversations. Imagine you missed an important detail in a discussion, and the watch has already prepared a summary for you. The second feature, Live Rewind, records and transcribes the last 15 seconds of audio captured by the watch's microphone. This can be useful if you didn't manage to jot down someone's words or want to quickly revisit something just said.
These updates break the old perception of smartwatches as devices that only react to direct commands. Previously, watches were passive listeners, awaiting commands. Now, they are becoming more proactive, offering users contextual information without an explicit request. This is a step towards more natural interaction, where the device anticipates your needs by analyzing the sound environment.
For now, these features are available as part of the developer beta, but their appearance in the final release of watchOS could significantly change how we use wearable devices. It's no longer just a watch, but a smart companion that helps you not miss the important things in the flow of information. Perhaps soon, we will rely on our watches not only for activity tracking but also for navigating dialogues, as if we always have a personal stenographer and analyst at hand.
