Google is taking a step towards more intelligent home management by allowing third-party AI agents, such as Claude and Open Claw, to access your connected devices. The new integration, called Model Context Protocol (MCP), ensures secure interaction between AI and the Google Home ecosystem. This means your smart home will now be able to not only execute commands but also analyze its operational data, acting proactively.

Previously, smart home control was limited to apps from Google or device manufacturers. Now, thanks to MCP, any AI agent supporting this protocol can control lights, thermostats, cameras, and other gadgets, as well as use event history for finer automation adjustments. Imagine your home adapting to your schedule, considering not just the time but also your habits, analyzed by an advanced AI.

This opens the door for deeper personalization and automation. For example, an AI could not just turn on lights on a schedule but also adjust their brightness and color temperature based on the time of day and your activity, or optimize energy consumption by analyzing sensor data. While Google has not disclosed exact timelines for this feature's availability to all users, the very fact of opening the platform to third-party AI hints at a future where home management becomes truly intuitive.
